Hat and Mitten set for Jacob

Jacob is growing like a weed, and has grown out of his newborn hats already, So it's time for the bigger baby size. I love this hat pattern, as you can probable tell, as this is my third time knitting it.
The Mittens are made from a free pattern I found here and boy do they knit up fast!
If you have a little one and live in a colder climate,Then I highly recommend this pattern.
the set used a little less than a skein of Patons Classic Wool Merino, in the denim colourway,  The mitts are made on size 3.75 dpn's.
I hope to have a photo shoot with Jacob soon.

The set is so cute. I'm going to try & make the hat for a grand-niece due in mid-Mar. The directions are for newborn size. How did you make bigger hats for Jacob as he grew? Larger needles? Increase the amt. of sts.?
